Lord Rowden abandoned the fort at Ninety Six heading to the Congaree. Rowden stopped over night at Friday's Ferry on the Saluda River. Patriot Lt Col "Light Horse" Harry Lee ordered Capt. Eggleston to cross the river and attempt to disrupt British foraging for supplies. Eggleston surprised the British cavalry foraging two miles from the main British camp. He captured 3 officers, 45 men, horses and equipment. One British dragoon escaped but most of the wagons were also captured.
