Strong advocate of widow remarriage, showed that there was no prohibition on widows
remarrying in the entire body of ‘Smriti’ literature.
In 1850, he became the principal of sanskrit college.
He opened the sanskrit college to non-brahmins.
Evolved a new methodology to teach sanskrit.
Devised a new bengali primer and evolved a new prose style.
To support women education, he organized a fund called 'Nari Shiksha Bhandar'

The first lawful Hindu widow remarriage among the upper castes in our
country was celebrated in Calcutta on 7 December 1856 under the
inspiration and supervision of Vidyasagar
