After leaving destruction on Hilton Head Island the British anchored at Bull's Plantation, home of Patriot Gen Stephen Bull. The British shore party went to White Hall Plantation, home of Thomas Heyward, Jr a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Heyward refused a chance to surrender and escaped. British removed all the furniture and alcoholic beverage from the home before burning it to the ground. The British departed landing across the river at modern day Laurel Bay Plantation which was the home of Andrew DeVeaux IV, an American who switched sides after tne fall of Savannah, GA. DeVeaux acted as a guide for the British raid to the Island.
