Truman announced the US would aid South Korea. The UN security council quickly followed suit and agreed to help as well to restore peace and safety in the region. Had the Soviet Union been at the meeting, they would've certainly used their veto power to block this resolution. Because the UN denied Mao's People's Republic of China a seat on the security council, the Soviet Union began boycotting the meetings.
