The long-fought civil war in China between the nationalists led by Jiang Jieshi and the communists led by Mao Zedong had ceased during the Japanese invasion of China. After Japan's withdraw, the war was reinitiated. The communists won and Jieshi and the nationalists were forced off of mainland China
