3 St. 22 Min, 1 Jan 1863 Jahr - The Emancipation Proclamation
Beschreibung:
Abraham Lincoln was the man that formed this influential document. The Emancipation Proclamation was specifically a call to free the slaves. In this sentence, the Civil War Trust (2) describes what else the Emancipation Proclamation was aimed at, "Up until September 1862, the main focus of the war had been to preserve the Union. With the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation freedom for slaves now became a legitimate war aim," (Civil War Trust 1). Once Lincoln issued this after the battle of Antietam, he finally gave the Union something else to fight for. Lincoln also showed just how determined he was to ensure his plan of no slavery, and freedom for the African Americans. The Emancipation Proclamation also angered the Confederacy, as one of their minor reasons to continue the fight against the Union, was the protection of slavery. The reason for this was because Slavery played a large role in the economy of the Confederacy.
(2) Civil War Trust is a .org site, and also a charitable organization that works to help preserve America's battlefields.
