The battle of the Atlantic lasted throughout the entire war. However, due to the sheer amount of technology advantage the U.S. had at the time allowed them to gain the upper hand. Because of the technology such as radars, this allowed America to be able to sink more U-Boats than the Germans could build, and the U.S. was building boats faster than the Germans could sink them.
(U-Boats were originally quite the issue due to their ruthless nature, hide underwater, then when a ship coming, pop out of the water and ambush/attack the ship. U-Boats were a main component of the "German navy")
