Of the hundreds People who surrendered or captured, they were sent to court and 303 were given a death penalty for convicted of raping and murdering civilians, but at the persuade of missionary Henry Whipple, President Abraham Lincoln reviews the guilt, and reduced the sentences of 264 Dakota. Lincoln then signs the order sentence 39 men to death by hanging. One of the Dakota punishment’s were canceled, but the remaining 38 men are hanged in Mankato. The largest mass execution in U.S. history.
