The Jacobite army defeated the government army.The victory was a huge morale boost for the Jacobites, and a heavily mythologised version of the story entered art and legend.

Alexander did not join the Jacobite Rising of 1745 in support of Charles Edward Stuart “Bonnie Prince Charlie” but his younger brother Duncan and a few clansmen fought with the Jacobite army at this battle.
