The fighting soon moves to town, and using the building for cover. The Dakota would fire from the door and windows at the settlers. Men set fire to buildings near rivers. After hours of fighting; the desperate fighters made a charge at the Dakota, and even burned down the building they used for cover. At sunset the Dakota retreat back with 32 dead, and more than 60 hurt.
