Nothing is done for his birthday at his request but he still hoped to get a few presents. He gets just the one from Kathleen; a model aeroplane kit. He loves it but it just reminds him that Hector isn’t around to make it with him anymore. He smashes it to pieces. Riley tells him he’s ungrateful. Sam doesn’t care – the first instance where he is numbing.
