Hearing about the attacks, the men from New Ulm quickly build barricades in the center of the town. About 100 Dakota soldiers attack New Ulm at around 3:00 PM. After 2 hours of fighting, the Dakota break off the attack because of torrential rains. Word of the attacks reaches St Paul.
