The Dakota attacked Fort Ridgely which is used for training volunteers to fight in the civil war. Only some forts west of the Mississippi had withstood direct attacks. Fort Ridgely was one of them. Fort Ridgely’s military resists the Dakota until reinforcements came and ended the attack.
