The government's reaction to the oil shocks was to Think Big! This economical strategy of 1981 was fabricated to ensure to ensure 900 000 new jobs and move NZ away from energy reliance on other countries. But decreasing oil prices made this plan less needed and the economical practicality of these projects, resulting in the promised job spaces to not transpire. Many energy projects were sold or deactivated.
