Germany attacks Poland (Sept 1 - Oct 6 1939): After violating the non-aggression pact between Germany and Russia, Hitler invaded Poland, gaining an easy success because the latter was heavily outnumbered. Additionally, Poland was invaded from the east by the Soviets, but even with these circumstances, Britain and France did not aid Poland as they should have.
