In 1572, the last bastion of Inca resistance to Spanish rule fell as Vilcabamba, the last holdout of the Inca Empire, was captured by the Spanish. While most of the Inca Empire fell to the Spanish much earlier, this event still represents the full fall of Inca resistance and the complete extinguishing of native rule.
