Organized by Jacob Coxey, Coxey's army was a response to the Panic of 1893 in protest of the federal government's failure to provide economic aid for its citizens. Upon arrival in Washington D.C., Coxey and his supporters demanded the government to hire them in public works programs, but Coxey would be arrested in the end, making the protest a failure.

Coxey's army signifies the economic hardship from the Panic of 1893 and shows a growing desire of Americans to play a more active role in solving people's problems.
