Operation Overlord was the last invasion before Germany's surrender to the Allies. After D-Day, over 1 million Allied soldiers were in France. Germany was not prepared at all and was losing all their supplies and soldiers.

Canada had contributed 14 000 troops, 100 ships, and 36 other bomber squadrons. Canadians were responsible for the attack of 1 of the 5 beaches and at Juno Beach, Canadians captured more land than any other Ally attacks. However, Operation Overlord was one of the bloodiest battles and resulted in over 20 000 Canadian deaths.
