Williams, a separatist from London, comes to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in the early 1630's. He is almost immediately invited to be a pastor of a local congregation, yet he refuses because the congregation had not publicly repented for their failure to separate from the Church of England. Because of this, Roger Williams is expelled from the Massachusetts Bay Colony shortly after his arrival.
