Pasokification, the decline of traditional centre and centre-left candidates and parties in favor of more left and right wing extremes, develops into salient effects for the first time as the Coalition of the Radical Left (also known as Syriza) overtakes the social democrat Panhellenic Socialist Movement (also known as PASOK) in the Greek Parliament. This trend has continued to this day, most notably in France, where the Socialist Party went from holding the office of president in 2012 to receiving 2% of the vote in 2022.
