- Virginia Plan (favored large states) v.s. New Jersy Plan (favored small states) => the Great Compromise which provided for the Senate and the House of Representatives
- The Three Fifths Compromise which counted each enslaved person as three-fifth of an American citizen
- Allowed slave trade until 1808, and Congress could abolish it by vote
- The federal governemnt could regulate interstate and foreign commmerce, but could not impose taxes on exports
- The Electoral College system was instituted to vote for presidency
- The power to veto acts of the Congress
