Charles Darwin publishes On the Origin of the Species, greatly accelerating the tensions between Fundamentalist Christianity, which insists the Bible has no errors spiritually or scientifically, and theological modernism (later Liberal Christianity), which insists the Bible must be interpreted in light of modern science and ethics in order remain spiritually relevant.

The tension between Fundamentalist (believes solely in the bible), and Modernist (Wants to interpret the bible in light of new research) Christianity came about by the release of a paper know as "On the Origin of the Species" by Charles Darwin
