29 Jun 1956 Jahr - Federal Highway Act of 1956
Beschreibung:
While in Germany during WWII Eisenhower saw how advantageous a national highway system was by how fast the Germans were able to move and redeploy their forces. there was much debate over who would provide the funding but eventually a joint Senate-House committee came to a decision. The highways frequently went through cities and caused the demolition of housing in many poorer sections and followed previously established railroad lines and thus missed many small towns.
