1 Jan 1965 Jahr - Selma and Montgomery
Beschreibung:
At the beginning of 1965, activists, including King, began to focus on registering voters in the Alabama cities of Selma and Marion. More than 200 protestors were arrested in both the marches in January and February. In Marion, state and local police beat nonviolent marchers who were protesting the arrest of an SCLC official. Jimmy Lee Jackson tried to protect his mother and grandfather, but ended up getting shot by a policemen. This caused more protestors to come to Alabama, which eventually led to the Voting Rights Act to be passed.
