On February 12st, 1950, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Soviet Union signed a mutual defense act against any future aggression by Japan along with a $300 million credit to the PRC from the Soviet Union. This pact stunned the West who publicly stated that communism was a movement that the Soviet Union was trying to spread. This event is significant as it changed the scale between capitalism and communism during the cold war.
