Theodor Schwann observed animal tissues under the microscope. He came to the conclusion that all animal cells are also made up of cells. He then worked together with Matthias Schleiden at the beginning of the cell theory.

He also had a cell on a nerve in the peripheral nervous system named after him and invented rebreathers fro firefighters.
