4 Jul 1776 Jahr - Declaration of Independance
Beschreibung:
"[...] all men are created equal, [...] they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights"
The Declaration of Independence did not extend “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” to African Americans. Even though Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration and called slavery an “abominable crime,” he was a lifelong slaveholder. Jefferson and other founders who opposed slavery did not insist on abolishing it, since they did not want to divide the fragile new nation.
