This event presents an overlap between Walt's family/personal life and his newly created drug lord life. During the time that Walt is kidnapped, his family is extremely worried about him, with absolutely no idea where he could've gone and why he had done so. At this point, it's possible that some viewers begin to hate Walt for putting his family into this position. Also during this time, Hank gets involved in this part of Walt's life when he connects a phone call between Jesse and Walt. This leads him to get caught in a dangerous shootout with Tuco which he eventually wins. This further stretches the involvement of Walt's loved ones in his life of crime, putting them in danger. The audience's emotional connection to Walt, established at the beginning of the story, begins to diminish as he starts to be portrayed more as a bad guy.
