This is the point in the story at which most viewers begin to feel a snowball effect of bad events quickly get developed. There is still a sense of sympathy for Walt as he is fresh off the diagnosis and it seems as if he is alone in handling this struggle because he hasn't told anyone about the diagnosis yet. Viewers are put in a position in which they want Walter to find a different way to raise money instead of cooking meth, but at the same time, don't want Walter to get caught.
