The Battle of Palo Duro Canyon was the major battle of the Red River War and ended up in the imprisonment of most Plains Indians. It started when Mackenzie's Calvary were pursuing several bands of Comanche which they all defeated. Once they reached the canyons edge which they knew a Indian Refuge was there, so they attacked it and ended up burning the village. This was one of the last Indian attempts at fighting back at the military.
