12 März 1947 Jahr - Truman Doctrine
Beschreibung:
There was growing unease about the spread of communism. With Great Britain's greatly waning power and wealth, they could no longer support the anticommunists in the Greek Civil War. Worrying that this loss would allow Soviet control in the Mediterranean and the empowerment of communist parties in other European countries, Truman gave a speech, later known as the 'Truman Doctrine, that declared that America had a responsibility to help any free country resist being subjugated. He later supplied aid to Greece and Turkey, while mostly indirectly opposing the Soviet Union. This impacted the Cold War, as this is the basis for many of the actions taken against the Soviet Union in the future.
