Max Roach was born in Newland North Carolina in 1925. He subdued percussion at the Manhattan School of Music. Max Roach started a record company with Charles Mingus called "Debut Records". It was a very successful company. He was one of the most influential and was a staple for the Be-Bop style of jazz.
