a government sponsored expedition from Moreton Bay to Port Essington but the government canceled the expedition in August 1844 but Ludwig Leichhardt decided to mount the expedition by himself. 4 other people joined him on the way. He left from Jimbour Homestead (farthest outpost of settlement on the Queensland Darling Downs). People thought that he was dead as he was not seen at all during the journey.
