Bakelite plastic was the 1st cheap commercial plastic, it revolutionized production. Not only was it nonconductive and heat resistant which vastly improved electrical devices reliability. But its vast color palette also made it a viable material for art based endeavors. It made perfect furniture on things like radios, and old dial telephones etc.
July 24 1911, Machu Picchu was discovered. This was breaking news because until then this was known as the lost city. This city was instantly made into one of the most popular tourist destinations. Beforehand Machu Picchu was possibly a summer home for Inca leaders, but their entire civilization was destroyed by the Spanish invaders and the city was lost until recently.
The Rutherford atom was a massive breakthrough in science in general. It revolutionized how we thought of the atomic scale, while it’s not exactly the “correct” way atoms are actually constructed, we still use its visualization to describe newer versions of the atom in a more understandable fashion, if you had a physics class you WILL have seen this model before.
The titanic sunk on April 14 1912 on its 1st use. The Titanic is possibly the most famous ship of all time, as its story is retold over and over, and the movie about it is known almost more so than the ship itself. There were 3 ships made that were of the same class as the titanic, The Olympic, the titanic itself, and the Britannic. These were designed for comfort more so than speed. Essentially the 1st cruise ship of all time.

The first stainless steel was made around a hundred years ago, stainless is uniquely resistant to most things metals usually cannot withstand, it doesn’t corrode, its heat resistance, its formability, doesn’t rust, and it doesn’t react to most things. It is also much more durable and cheaper than something like gold, or platinum. https://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=8307
The Theory of General Relativity. Possibly one of the most prevalent theories of all time. This theory essentially set up the rules of physics itself, it explains gravity better than anything before it has done so, and it came up with the idea of space-time where time and space are connected fundamentally. This was an expansion of the theory of special relativity, which was an earlier project of his. https://www.space.com/17661-theory-general-relativity.html
The Spanish flu was a rapidly spreading pandemic, where almost no one had an immunity to it. The virus infected around 500 million people globally, and it was very hard to contain and combat because of the very limited medical technology back in the day. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21777-spanish-flu#:~:text=The%20Spanish%20flu%20was%20a,estimated%20500%20million%20people%20globally.

The Treaty of Versailles. Possibly the most controversial treaty of all time. The signing of this document was essentially the official end of the 1st world war, it held the rules that Germany had to follow after the war. For example, Germany had to pay reparations, disarm their military, lose territory, and give up their overseas colonies. https://guides.loc.gov/treaty-of-versailles
