17 Jan 1774 Jahr - Coercive Act Issued (1774)

Beschreibung:

As protests like the Boston Tea Party ran rampant in the new world, and taxation became a trigger word for angry patriots, Britain's Parliament was more determined than ever to establish control over the American Colonies. Most of the coercive acts were responses, with punishments being set in place, such as the Boston Harbor being closed until the tea was paid for. Fearing a more bloody revolution, Britain also reestablished its Quartering Act, now allowing for soldiers to stay in even the most private of domains. Power was also stripped from Massachusetts's colonial charter, and a new government was put in place for it. Once more, Britain sought a means of holding direct control over the colonies, but more than anything, it just rose tensions amongst the public.
