Zheng Zu, a Buddhist monk began spreading the Shí huán zhī dào, or Way of the Ten Rings, the worship of a millenarian eschatology and a voluntary path of salvation. They were an offshoot White Lotus sect, primarily worshipping Wusheng Laomu. Zheng Zu became obsessed with finding Kunlun and obtaining immortality. The name derives from the ten years between each opening of the gates of Kunlun.
