Made by the Lumiere brothers

-On tripod
-Projector and camera in one.
-Film in top. passes in front of lens.
-turning handle pulls film through using holes that two sprockets attach onto
-Half sphere that rotates in front of image so half of the time the image is blocked. Without it we would only see a blur.
-Behind it there is a light source shining into aperture. Light source wasn't always electrical. Carbon arch lamp, or oil burning.
-Why did this one succeed and not the others? Lumiere brothers advertised the shit out of it. Demeny was a scientist and le prince was an engineer. Marketed themselves as geniuses, has a circus aesthetic. Come see this craaazy thing!
-Vaudeville. Cabaret show, freak show.
-Took films of far away places around the world. Promising they have films of places and things people will never see. Constantly making new films so people will come back. Realized the key to the purpose of the technology was the visual image.
