When Gold was discovered on January 24th, 1848 as people began to move California in masses and wanted nothing more than to reap the new riches found in California; this was known as the California Gold Rush. By the 1850’s the people who had come to California to reap the riches were known as 49ers and were beginning to develop small cities all throughout California. The California Gold rush eventually led to more immigrants coming in and expressing their culture and California gaining enough legitimacy to be considered a new state.
