Formed from two zones of occupation at the end of WWII the countries of North and South Korea were created in 1948. War broke out when North Korean forces crossed the border seeking to reunify the two countries. Denounced by the United Nations an international force was sent to repel the invasion. Britian was amongst the 21 countries involve din the UN sanctioned force, though by far the biggest contributor was the USA.
