Adolf Hitler was not officially declared dead until 1956. After he heard that Russian troops were only a day away from overthrowing him, he needed to escape. He and his wife of two days committed suicide, eating cyanide tablets. Hitler's death provided relief for those previously in camps because they were assured in a sense that nothing like this would ever happen again.
