When a commander steps down to care for his family, a position is left available. Unlike the trials for Lieutenant, candidates must be selected by the 10 captains. To many people's surprise, Gregor, a chief, supplies his own volunteer: Brenna. This trial is just as vicious as the one for Lieutenant, if not more. Competitors are defeated if they are knocked unconscious. Brenna fights valiantly, but when it comes down between herself and Commander Valencia's candidate, Lio, she loses.
