In Italy, a four-month stalemate between the United States and German forces occurs, followed by a breakout offensive on May 23rd which resulting in Allied victory.

After the easy process of pushing Italian troops out of Italy, it was frustrating to not make much progress against the German army. Nonetheless, Allied ground was gained in the end.
