Louis Riel returned to Canada in 1884 at the request of Gabriel Dumont, leader of the Metis in Saskatchewan. Riel retuned to help the Metis, once again, fight the Canadian government that was trying to take over the Metis lands. Like in 1879, he set up a provisional givernment and became leader of the Metis.
