When I was in 7th grade I joined my school's robotics team, and it was very important to me because without having ever joined robotics I would not have been exposed to a variety of concepts in engineering and math. Robotics was also a big part of my life because that's where I met my best friend who I started getting closer to and I still talk to him today.
