At dawn on April 19, 1775, 700 British troops arrived in Lexington and came upon 77 militia men who were on the town green. By the end of the fight, eight militiamen were dead and nine were wounded, but only one Redcoat died.

Then, they decided to continue to Concord. After searching the town for four hours, the British prepared to return to Boston, but fighting soon broke out again, so they left their supplies behind. The British reached Lexington, attempting to finish off the Redcoats, but were told not to attack, and successfully reached the safety of Charleston Neck.
