okay so this one's really smth, if u thought u were having a tough time, imagine ur whole civilisation going to shit around u all in the span on one night
so the sauavkin empire is basically THE empire. none as great (at least on this side of the last cataclysm) existed before nor has existed since, the aelos empire, which only really became an empire after sauvak fell and there was a new power vacuum, considers itself smth of a successor to it, they took in the refugees and adopted some of ths things that made it so great in the first place, like their economics and governmental use of magic
anyway, all of this is mostly thanks to everyone's favourite asshole, the shadow dude, whose name i will be changing to smth more menacing, i just don't know what
the last leader of the empire was shar barak, and he was shady af
now, at this time their greatest ally (and secret rival) is elaryn to the north, they're kinda pretentious assholes (or at least that's what everyone thinks), and barak is really tired of them and wants to get rid of them, especially when they start suspecting that the shar of elaryn wants to expand his empire to sauvak and has maybe, maybe not planted spies in the sauvak court
are these lies fed to him by not-kyro? what do you think? so barak is desperate and goes to not-kyro and is like 'dude, what do i gotta do to keep this guy from invading, i can't deal with this rn' and not-kyro, whose shadow minions have been locked away in the deepest parts of the reachable earth, is all 'it's easy dude, u just gotta make a shadow army' and over the next few years, barak instructs his people to dig tunnels and mine the aljin alwad, the stone with a shadow core, and also to bring all the homeless and criminals to 'clean up the street'
not-kyro is really just putting the shadow inside of them as a host until they can grow strong enough to exist on their own (or smth) and thus he creates shades, and they promptly start wreaking havoc on the empire and its neighbours
barak is freaking tf out now, this wasn't what he bargained for, but he's too far gone now, and they both know it
now, elaryn is basically run on magic, witches are the high elite, if u don't have magic, too bad, u r a second class citizen at best, a slum dweller at worse, not really a citizen at all, and the shar brings in the top most coven, the most powerful witches in the whole country, maybe on the whole continent, they see the shit going down in sauvak and are like 'ok, only one thing we can do: banish the shadow king'
they can't kill him bc he's one of the divines, he's literally a part of the foundation of the world, but he's a corrupted form of the foundation
so they decide to banish him to the western sea; no one knows what's beyond it so that's not their problem, it's nearby so they can keep an eye on it, and also there's this bottomless bit (seemingly, it's kinda like that 'great blue hole' thing) so they can just store him down there
so one group goes to akkaena, the sauvak capital, to yadina the life tree (one of the gateways between worlds), and one goes to haya stones (another gateway) at the elaryn western coast where the pit is visible from, and they start the ritual at the exact same time
the akkaenan witches summon the shades to the tree, but while doing so, the shades panic and resist and the whole thing takes so much power it calls upon four mini cataclysms, earthquakes, floods, fires, hurricanes, and the whole capital and everything within a fifty km radius is destroyed with it
despite this, the ritual was a success, and the shades as well as the shadow king were pulled through the yadina gate to the haya gate. the shades were banished to the bottomless pit bc they were still real, actual beings, while the shadow king was banished to the world between worlds bc he's more of a concept, a non-tangible entity
and only one empire had to be destroyed, its people ruined and devastates and traumatised for life
the ones who survived, that is
to protect this secret and the knowledge of where they were all banished, they formed a council of four, who would guard this secret and pass it on
