Born in Tokomaru Bay, Ngoi Pēwhairangi would become one of Aotearoa’s most celebrated and renowned composer.

A Kapa Haka tutor for Te Hokowhitu a Tū Concert party and founding member of Te Ataarangi with Kāterina Mataira, her reach in the arts also extended to roles such as the council for Māori and Pacific Arts in 1979.

Ngoi had a profound effect on a new generation of performing arts and Māori music with numerous waiata and collaborations such as Kia Kaha Ngā Iwi and E Ipo.
