In may of 1989 the students in china launched a mass movement calling for democracy. On June 3 1989 in Tiananmen square Beijing hardliners in the government sent in the Chinese military to stop the movement. The military used tanks and ran over all the students protesting. It was one of the bloodiest massacres in world history. China immediately crushed the idea of democracy.
