20 März 1876 Jahr - United States v. Joseph
Beschreibung:
Americans settled in New Mexico in land that belonged to the Taos and Pueblo Indian tribes in the region. Joseph argued that tribes' land is off-limits to settlers. The U.S. argued that in order to be considered a "tribe", then there must be a title to the land. The court ruled that the Taos were, in fact, a tribe, and setting on their line could result in a 1,000 dollar fine.
