The cattle frontier was an area of land that stretched from Texas and North into Canada and was used mainly for the purpose of ranching and the raising of cattle. This area would be used decades after the civil war on a larger scale. This business would be promoted by the construction of railroads into Kansas, the first stockyards, and the increased demand for cattle meat. However, this would soon end abruptly after the winter Blizzard and route of 1885 and 1886 killed 90% of the cattle population ending the cattle industry by the late 1880s . The cattle industry would lead towards the specified breeding of larger and larger cattle for more meat turret the cattle frontier in the few decades that it was active would create the American legend of the cowboy.
